The EEL as started in 2005 by Tony Collins and Adam Wright originally as a fanzine for Broadway Market in Hackney.
It tried to highlight some of the disappearing aspects of East End life as regeneration took hold.
Irreverant and witty it has highlighted many of the sccial and political changes within the are particularly the fight to save the livelihoods of local Broadway Market shopkeepers.
We were also supportive of groups such as Open Dalston and the campaign to save Manor Garden Allotments as part of our Olympic Watch series.
The EEL has always encouraged contributions from writers and artists as well as interviewing local characters.
Aside from the zine The EEL has also been involved in community events including;
THE VYNER STREET FESTIVAL with The Victory pub and THE ART VINYL RECORD EXHIBITION.
In recent issues we have focussed on specific parts of Hackney and East London including Dalston, Clapton and Hackney Wick.
To date 12 issues have been published along with the publication of SPLITTING THE ATOM ON DALSTON LANE in 2009.
